Things are tense in this nail-biting moment: palms sweaty, heart fluttering. If I move to the right—this will happen; if I move to the left—that will happen; if I stand still and do nothing—things might get worse. Lord, now what?
It’s your move!
You see, this next step is on you because God has already made His move: He sacrificed His Son; He took care of the adversary; He freely gives wisdom, grace, and mercy; His angels stand guard on assignment; God has given His divine Word and His Holy Spirit for guidance.
It’s still your move!
When we are waiting on God to move in our lives, He is probably waiting on us to trust, obey—then step out on faith. Ask Him: “Lord, am I standing in my own way?” Listen for His answer. He might respond by giving you a gut feeling on an approach to take; He might speak through situations and circumstances, or by some other means. Pay attention and move accordingly.
A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life], But the Lord directs his steps and establishes them. (Proverbs 16:9 AMP)
We must never forget that the devil is an old “chess player.” He has carefully studied us; he knows the perfect time to slide in temptations that will offset our Christian walk. He uses people to get under our skin. He’s a master at bait-and-switch tactics—swapping faith for fear. He takes his time to calculate schemes that will kill, steal, and destroy our lives. We are deceiving ourselves if we think we can checkmate this demon by making haphazard moves while his moves are meticulously calculated.
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. (Psalm 32:8)
There are no short-cuts that we can afford to take when strategizing against the enemy. He’s been at this for a long time, and we’re no competition for him. On the other hand, the Holy Spirit is a different matter. He is the only One who can put the devil’s evil conspiracies in check. Therefore, we must pray, listen, and receive the Lord’s instructions.
Listed are five strategic moves that must be in place:
- Obey the Word of God.
…blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. (Luke 11:28b)
- Listen to God.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: (John 10:27)
- Trust the Lord.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
- Under no circumstances take God’s armor off.
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Ephesians 6:11)
- Worship and praise God!
When they began singing and praising, the Lord set ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so they were struck down [in defeat]. (2 Chronicles 20:22 AMP)
