A protégé is a student who is studying under an exemplary craftsman who has successfully mastered their skill. It’s an honor and privilege to receive instruction from a person with that much expertise; who is willing to share. If you think about it, that sounds a lot like someone who is being guided by the Holy Spirit—the Master Teacher.
I’m a Protégée—Awesome!
The other day when I was asking God for help with a project, an image of a little girl came to my mind. She was sitting on the floor with her legs crossed—listening intensively as wisdom was being poured into her head. The simplicity of a child eager to learn is a perfect illustration of how we must humble ourselves and receive wisdom from the Master.
“Speak, for your servant is listening.”
(I Samuel 3:9b NIV)
I had to get to the age I am now to realize: Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient wants to teach me, and I need to listen. Who am I to refuse this invaluable instruction?
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. (Proverbs 3:5-7 NIV)
The best decision we could ever make is to come to the realization that we should submit to the One Who loves us. We should be relieved that all we have to do in return is—obey.
It’s really that simple!
How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. 12 Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. (Psalm 119:9-12 NIV)
We over complicate this journey called life. We should just humble ourselves and keep it simple.
