I think the biggest scam going is to make people think love is an ooey-gooey feeling. Hollywood’s version of love is short-sighted; giving people the impression that you have to have feelings of affection before you can show love.
You don’t have to wait until you feel all warm and fuzzy before you put a Scripture like Matthew 22:39—love your neighbor into practice. An even wider stretch is to include Luke 6:27—love your enemies. These Scriptures don’t have an “if” clause; only if they love and treat you with kindness in return do you have to love them.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. (I Corinthians 13:2 NIV)
Love for hate confuses the enemy!
To be honest with you, I didn’t know what love meant. I couldn’t understand how I could love people that I didn’t know. I didn’t hate anybody, but I couldn’t say that I loved everybody—people that I barely, or don’t know at all. Hmmm!
One day I heard someone explain that love is not a feeling, but an action. The mystery was solved! When I heard that it took the load off my shoulders. Do acts of love. I can do that—treat people with respect and kindness—I can do that too. Looking at love from that perspective gives me more control to enjoy my life.
What does the devil gain from this scam? A lot!
God is love. That right there explains the devil’s interest. When we don’t show love to our fellowman, it gives the enemy jurisdiction over our lives to bred unforgiveness, bitterness, prejudice and other blessing blockers.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. (Galatians 5:6 NIV)
Love is a powerful weapon. Woe to the person who bites the hand of love. We have no control over how people treat us, but we do have control over how we treat them.
