Life is not a straight unimpeded line but rather a labyrinth of complicated complexities, making it impossible to successfully navigate our way through without the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Without His direction, we are hoping and guessing; winging it; playing it by ear; functioning off the top of our heads; because He’s the only One who knows for sure the way we should go—God designed it that way.
I will instruct you (says the Lord) and guide you along the best pathway for your life; I will advise you and watch your progress. 9 Don’t be like the senseless horse or mule that has to have a bit in its mouth to keep it in line! (Psalm 32:8-9, LAB)
In John 16:7, Jesus told His disciples He was going away but would send the Holy Spirit into the world to be their Comforter. Today, the Holy Spirit is still among us as our Advocate, Counselor, Intercessor, Helper, Strengthener, and Standby (AMP). We are to lean on Him to get us through our everyday situations—God designed it that way.
So, what should you do when you can’t detect God’s presence?
- First, have faith to believe He’s still there with you—teaching and counseling you to trust Him even when He’s silent. Teachers don’t talk during tests.
- Second, remember He’s your Standby—and standbys are always standing by. His eyes are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers (see 1 Peter 3:12).
- Finally, if you are having a problem following the Holy Spirit’s path, ask Him to help you. Remember He’s your Helper, too.
Life is hard, especially during these unparalleled days we’re facing now. “Normal” isn’t coming back. Therefore, we need help beyond human means to take us through this uncharted territory.
God designed it that way!
