There are many descriptions we can use to label earthly fathers; some good and some not good. However, there is a commonality they all possess; they are all mortal men with shortcomings.
Sure many of us had dads who would have gone to the ends of the earth for us. Still with all that “superman” strength, there were barriers they couldn’t defeat on our behalf. Nevertheless, God is the One Father—Who has no barriers. He is not bound by any limitations or restrictions.
Faith in God is the pathway to the heavenly Father.
There is a comforting ease in knowing God loves and watches over those who are His. They can talk honestly to their Father about things they can’t tell anybody else. God will listen to their secrets as He gives fatherly advice and guidance. God loves His children so much that He has them engraved on the palms of His hands. Never are they out of His sight or removed from His grace, mercy, and power.
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me. (Isaiah 49:15-16)
Obey the Father!
On the other hand, God has no problem correcting His children when they need correction. If they don’t heed to His warnings, just like a loving earthly father, the child must face the consequences.
My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. (Proverbs 3:11-12)
Who can come against God—our heavenly Father?
Also like an earthly father, God will protect those who are His. Whoa! What a gross mistake for the enemy to think he can come against a child of God. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Father will lift up a standard of defense.
When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19b)
No one has to be fatherless.
My GOD—my Father!
