I know someone who has memorized Psalm 91 in its entirety. But the problem is, they can’t apply those verses to their everyday life when the slightest hint of trouble—darkens their path. It makes you wonder: Are they just parroting words? This lack of faith isn’t unique to only this person—many of us can relate. Just because we love a Scripture and can recite it doesn’t mean it’s working in our lives. We have to move beyond rehearsed words to application followed by manifestation.
How can we connect powerful Scriptures to our lives?
Scriptures play a powerful role in our lives if we can muster the faith to believe. For instance, in Psalm 91 every verse is powered packed. What’s so remarkable is those promises are for us if we have the faith to believe. If we’re truly convinced in what we say we believe, our faith will follow our position.
Does faith need belief or does belief need faith?
If you are having a hard time applying your faith to God’s Word, then you have to ask yourself: Do I believe the Word of God? Do I believe God’s Word applies to my life? Either way it goes, you have to be honest with God and ask Him to help you with your unbelief. Having the faith to believe is too important not to pay attention to this matter.
…Lord, I do believe; help thou mine unbelief. (Mark 9: 24b)
Here are some ways that might help if unbelief is a problem for you:
- The first step is to learn the Word of God. You have to know what to believe.
- Make the Scriptures an essential part of your life by finding verses that fit every challenge that you face. When you find those Scriptures, meditate and ask God to give you revelation on how it affects your situation.
- Finally, be obedient to the Word of God. It’s hard to generate faith that the Word will work in your life if you’re not obedient to the Word.
